NaProTECHNOLOGY (Natural Procreative Technology or NaPro) is an integrated approach to reproductive and gynecologic healthcare. Developed by Thomas Hilgers, MD, of Pope Paul VI Institute, and based on over 30 years of scientific research, NaProTECHNOLOGY is a medical system that monitors and maintains a woman’s gynecologic and reproductive health in a way that cooperates with her normal reproductive cycle. It utilizes the Creighton Model FertilityCare System as the basis for monitoring a woman’s menstrual and fertility cycles. The Creighton Model is a standardized method by which a woman can observe and record daily changes in certain objective biomarkers of her cycle (such as external cervical mucus observations). In this way, a woman using the Creighton Model is empowered to better understand the normal or abnormal functioning of her menstrual and fertility cycles.
A physician trained in the use of NaProTECHNOLOGY can use the information provided by the woman’s tracking of her cycle – in conjunction with diagnostic labs and surgical procedures – to diagnose and provide medical and surgical treatment for a wide variety of gynecologic and reproductive conditions. Treatments are aimed at restoring the normal functioning of a woman’s cycle, which leads to better gynecologic health and improved reproductive potential. This is health care that truly puts a woman’s best interest first. It has applications for all women in different states of reproductive health, and it has real medical alternatives to the false solutions in today’s healthcare environment.
NaPro treatments contrast with practices that frustrate women’s natural ability to conceive and bear children such as artificial contraception, sterilization and abortion, or which ignore abnormalities in a woman’s reproductive function, as is often the case with Assisted Reproductive Technologies such as In Vitro Fertilization. When a woman is healthy, NaPro helps her to appreciate and value the gift of her fertility. When medical problems are present, NaPro evaluates and treats her with the purpose of restoring her to health. Every evaluation, medication, and procedure involved in NaPro works towards helping women to live healthy lives in the way that nature intended.
